NESRI’s Principles for Partnerships with Communities
1) NESRI partners with organizations committed to fundamental human rights principles, in particular principles of universality, non-discrimination, dignity, participation and democracy.
2) NESRI respects the rights of communities struggling to protect their human rights to shape and inform advocacy and public education strategies related to violations they face.
3) NESRI works in solidarity with communities, which means working together with community activists to jointly implement advocacy strategies.
4) NESRI will not represent or act on behalf of communities or victims unless it is at their request and with their input.
5) NESRI will not use any information obtained from partners in any way without their consent and approval, unless it would be unethical not to reveal the information.
6) NESRI will consult with partners in the event of a possible conflict of interest in any area, and resolve the conflict in a manner that does not undermine the partner’s goals, agenda or organization.
7) NESRI will be transparent in all dealings with partners.
8) NESRI’s partnerships are based on accountability through jointly meeting commitments and respecting a participatory organizing process.
