Location:
Description:

Once a year, the Left Forum creates a space to analyze the great political questions of our times. Activists, intellectuals, trade unionists, movement-builders and others come together to identify new strategies for broadening the "anti-corporate capitalist" movement. NESRI and various allies will be presenting at workshops throughout the conference. Below are two workshops that NESRI and its allies will be participating in:

HUMAN RIGHTS AT HOME: MEDIA AND MOVEMENT ROUNDTABLE

Abstract: Grassroots groups organizing in the U.S. around a Human Rights framework have used media and communications to build a class-based movement that is breaking the conventional media “blackout,” developing leadership among members, and disseminating a clear vision of economic and social justice. Watch four, five-minute samples of media used by the United Workers, Vermont Workers Center, Media Mobilizing Project, and the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative, and participate in a roundtable discussion with organizers about media’s role and potential in advancing a Human Rights movement.

Building a Social Movement: Leaders, Infrastructure, and Victories

Abstract: The Poverty Initiative is thrilled to welcome a large delegation of Poverty Scholars from our Statewide Organizing Collaboration--leaders from Media Mobilizing Project, Northeast Organizing Center, United Workers, Vermont Workers Center and follow NYC-based NESRI--to New York next week. Our Collaboration is sponsoring an exciting track called Building a Social Movement: Leaders, Infrastructure and Victories! at the Left Forum to be held at Pace University March 17 & 18. Please join us for a walking tour of NYC's abolition history, a centerpiece panel on Statewide Organizing Strategies, as well as panel discussions on movement media and VWC's organizing model which has successfully changed what is politically possible in Vermont.
