Kate supports the efforts of New York City students, teachers, parents, organizers and advocates to dismantle the school to prison pipeline and create the schools that young people want, deserve and need. Kate grew in the Bronx and has been organizing in New York City and State for over a decade. Prior to joining NESRI, Kate worked at Girls for Gender Equity where they lead education justice campaigns through and gender and racial justice lens. In addition, Kate was Lead Organizer at the Empire State Pride Agenda, where they led the successful marriage campaign in New York State and coordinated faith-based organizing for LGBTIQ equality and justice, in particular working with faith-based communities to become trans-affirming. Kate has also worked on electoral campaigns on the city, state and federal level.  

When not organizing, Kate is a performing artist and film maker. They firmly believe that imagination is an important component of social justice work, for it requires us to reach for a world that has yet to exist.  Kate achieved a BA from Emerson College with a double major in Political Communications and Filmmaking. They live in Brooklyn with their partner and cat.
