Violations of basic workplace standards are widespread across diverse low-wage industries. In this groundbreaking survey of low-wage workers in the three largest U.S. cities - New York, Chicago and Los Angeles - one in four workers confirmed experiencing wage theft in the past work week and only 9 percent of seriously injured workers filed a workers' compensation claim. Workers who reported these vioalations faced retaliation nearly 50 percent of the time, while fear of retalation was the leading reason workers did not report violations.
