Tell Your Local Supermarket to Support CIW and Stop Exploitation of Workers in the Field

Action:

Email your supermarket here and tell the CEO that exploitation is not ok. Let them know that the treatment of field workers is not acceptable and that they should start working with the CIW to remedy these problems. You can also email workers@ciw-online.org to receive free postcards to send to the corporate headquarters of Publix, Krogers, and Ahold to demand a change.

Let's send them a message – loud and clear – that it's time for the supermarket industry to join the growing movement for Fair Food.

Lead Organization:
Coalition of Immokalee Workers
Target:
Supermarket Chains
Co-sponsoring Organizations:
Student/Farmworker Alliance, NESRI
Background:

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers, in partnership with NESRI, launched the Campaign for Fair Food in 2001 as a response to the treatment of workers in the agricultural fields of Florida's tomato industry. The migrant laborers faced clear human rights violations, including instances of forced labor and modern day slavery. NESRI and CIW have since been working tirelessly to get major corporate buyers to sign fair food agreements ensuring the basic human rights of every worker that grows and picks fruits and vegetables in supplying fields.
